The Ferals
The original line-up is Chris Frater (saxophones), Andrew French-Northam (guitar) and Joe Tussie (drums). The Ferals are here to help celebrate the Festival’s 20th year. This is highly appropriate as they played the first notes at the first Festival back in 1990 and were here for the 10th in 1999. Chris and Andrew were two of the visionaries responsible for the birth of our Festival. Chris lives, plays and teaches locally. He leads bands of varying styles and is the director and instigator of the highly acclaimed Bellingen Big Band. Andrew resides at Orange, teaching, directing the Contemporary Music Course at TAFE and high school big bands. Joe opened the 1990 Bellingen Jazz Festival and performs regularly in a variety of working bands throughout the region. He is renowned for his versatility and his dynamic and rhythmic approach to drumming. The Ferals – at the cutting edge!
