Jim Conway's Big Wheel

Jim has assembled an astonishing array of musicians who create original music that comes straight from the heart. Not to be missed!

Jim Conway (harmonica, backing vocals) is a highly accomplished harmonica player whose distinctive style is well known to blues, jazz and country music enthusiasts. His extensive career includes national tours with American blues man Brownie McGhee, The Captain Matchbox Whoopee Band, Circus Oz and The Backsliders.

Don Hopkins’ (keyboard, vocals) blues-drenched vocals are backed by a virtual history of blues piano styles. Ragtime, Boogie Woogie, Stride, Jazz, & New Orleans R&B.

Jess Green (guitar, vocals), the Big Wheel’s newest member, replaces the great Arne Hanna. She has quickly established herself as a gifted musician and composer. She was the recipient of the Jann Rutherford Memorial Award in 2006.

R.P.White (sax & vocals) Born in Missouri USA in 1949, R.P. came to Australia in the early 70s. Originally a bass trombonist, he also mastered trumpet, sax, guitar, bass, and most other ‘pop’ instruments. Versatility is a key word in describing this musician’s full-on career. In his own words, ‘I have been in everything from the Las Vegas Symphony to the Sixpac Bottle-blow Jug-band, a career that's taken me from relative obscurity to complete oblivion.’ R.P. rates his involvement with Big Wheel as ‘a pure delight’.

Antero Ceschin (drums & percussion) A graduate of the NSW Conservatorium of Music, Antero has spent two decades playing, touring and recording with artists such as The Mighty Reapers, Jeff Duff, Jackie Orszaczky, Leonardo’s Bride, and E Type Jazz. Antero is also Sydney’s inaugural and undefeated champion of chromatic harmonica.

Stan Valacos (db bass, backing vocals) is a highly respected musician in Jazz, Blues and other music circles. He is a highly respected musician and has played with just about everyone. He is playing in two bands at this Festival and was wanted by a third. Catch him also in the Traditional mode with The Tribute to Tom Baker Band. He’s equally at home in both genres and always a joy to listen to.
