Paris Dreaming
Ewan has been playing guitar for many years in all styles, and since devoting himself to the genre sometime ago has come to be regarded as one of Australia's premier Gypsy Jazz guitarists in the Django Reinhardt style. He currently leads well-known Manouche group Mystery Pacific and is Artistic Director of the OzManouche Festival. His playing is fluid and passionate. He writes melodic, evocative material in the style and his soloing is warm and articulate while still retaining that spontaneity and creativity that is inherent in jazz improvisation. Kay thinks she may have been a gypsy accordionist in a previous incarnation, and after years playing at Bush Dances and country socials on the Darling Downs in Queensland where she has lived all her life, she has thrown herself into playing Gypsy Jazz accordion, playing with fire and passion. They met in September 2006 at a folk gathering at Mulgowie in Queensland and to date have released two CDs, their first CD in April 2007 titled Paris Dreaming and their second Cascades in January 2008. Both are collections of Musette waltzes, Gypsy Swing, Django Reinhardt tunes and Ewan's originals. They recently featured on Australia All Over with Ian McNamara on ABC radio, and have just returned from successful performances at the National Folk Festival in Canberra.
